Squirrel-Proofing Tips

Keeping squirrels from invading our bird feeders is the biggest challenge to most backyard birding enthusiasts. How many of us have filled our squirrel feeders in the morning only to find them empty by the end of the day.

Well, there is a way to keep squirrels out of our bird feeders.

The secret is to observe exactly how the squirrels are getting into your bird feeders and then block that way. For example, is the squirrel getting to your feeder by climbing down the wire holding it? Then you need a dome baffle that blocks the squirrel from the top. On the other hand, if the squirrel gets on by climbing from below, you’re better off with a lamp shade or cylindrical baffle that blocks the squirrel from below. If none of these things work, try getting a squirrel-proof bird feeder that dumps the squirrel off or blocks the seed.
